Fitting is not a formality: it is the moment when the digital model meets the reality of the body. A session conducted with a technical eye can identify issues that are invisible on the pattern — a sleeve that twists, a waistline that rides up, a collar that pulls — and turn them into precise corrections documented for production.
Atelier modArch runs fitting sessions as a standalone service — on prototypes made in-house or supplied by the client — with structured critical analysis and a written technical report at every session.
The mannequin is the geometric control tool: it verifies symmetry, the balance of lines, and the position of seams against the brand's reference silhouette. The live model adds the dimension of movement: how the sleeve behaves when the arm is raised, how the waist reacts when seated, where tension appears with the body in dynamic position. For technical outerwear and luxury sportswear, the live-model test is often indispensable.
PDF technical report with annotated photographs, list of pattern modifications with precise measurements, priority indications (critical / to verify / cosmetic). The report is directly usable by the pattern maker for subsequent corrections.
A structured session follows a sequence of checks, not a glance. On the overall balance: hem parallel to the floor, centre front vertical, no sideways drift — any rotation of the garment indicates a problem in the body or the shoulder. On the shoulder: the seam must sit on the joint, neither forward nor back; in padded garments the volume at the chest tends to pull it forward, and this must be corrected in the pattern, not accepted. On the side seams: they must be vertical with the garment closed; if they rotate towards the front, the front body is too wide relative to the back. On the sleeve: horizontal folds from the underarm indicate a tight armhole, vertical folds towards the hand indicate excess width; with the arm raised to 90°, the body of the garment must not rise more than 3-4 cm.

CAD is irreplaceable for grading and marker making, but the validation of fit on technical garments remains physical: the real volume of a padded garment, the behaviour of technical fabrics along the grain, the compression of the padding at the points of contact with the body are variables that simulation approximates without replicating. The subject is developed in the guide physical and digital patterns in luxury. In the studio's method, fitting is the control point between prototype and production: corrections go back into the CAD file and only the validated pattern moves on to size grading.
A garment of average complexity requires 2–3 sessions: first trial on the prototype, verification after the initial corrections, final approval. Complex technical garments (structured outerwear, multi-layer sportswear) may require 4–5 iterations.
Yes, for an initial orientation analysis. The client sends photographs of the prototype worn according to a standard protocol (front, side, back and movement views). Remote analysis can replace the in-person session for minor corrections; for structural issues an in-person session is always preferable.
Yes. We receive prototypes developed by other studios or workshops and conduct third-party fitting sessions with the same methodology. The technical report produced is usable by any pattern maker for corrections.
